Language Arts
Reading
We read in a variety of ways:
- We read to the children.
- The children read individually.
- The children will read in pairs.
- The children will read in small group.
Phonemic Awareness
Some of these skills include letter identification and sound matching,
word families, making words, initial, medial and final sounds, rhyming
words, etc. Phonemic Awareness is the foundation of reading.
Writing
The children will be writing in meaningful ways in the areas of curriculum
throughout the day. Daily journal writing.
Handwriting
We use D'Nealian handwriting. Your child will bring home handwriting
homework each week.
Manipulative's
The students will manipulate unifix cubes, pattern blocks, clocks, and
many other items to help them understand mathematical concepts such
as: patterning, number sense, addition, subtraction, times, skip counting,
and place value.
Themes
We will be working on a variety of themes throughout the year. The
themes go along with the curriculum.
Homework
Homework is sent home on Thursday. This homework includes
handwriting practice, sight word memorization, and practicing new skills
learned in the classroom.
My Goals

- Help children to become excited about books and reading!
Math
Numeration
To be able to count, read, and write numbers to 100 by the end of the
year.
Measurement
Length, weight, volume or capacity, elapsed time, matching and
comparing.
Geometry
Names of shapes, spatial awareness
Patterns and Functions
Sorting, Classifying, sequencing, pattering, and skip counting.
Money
Identifying coins and their value.
Clocks and Calendars
Telling time, Using ordering vocabulary
